I thought that Google Wave might be a way forward but was somewhat surprised to see it dropped. IBM (where I was until recently) internally is pushing Lotus Connections but I don't think the interface is elegant enough at the moment to overcome the cultural inertia that keeps people on email + spreadsheets.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07289576382829375487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-70793154401810790922011-02-23T19:48:02.125-08:002011-02-23T19:48:02.125-08:00Agreed that "the action is really where the d...Agreed that "the action is really where the data is." One more in-memory database system for your list is McObject's eXtremeDB (http://www.mcobject.com/extremedbfamily.shtml) which shares with TimesTen and SolidDB the distinction of having been created, from the ground up, AS an in-memory database system. So many DB vendors are jumping on the IMDS bandwagon, often on the basis of minor tweaks (or no tweaks at all) in their code.Ted Kenneyhttp://www.mcobject.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-10957831898505898782011-01-10T03:18:07.427-08:002011-01-10T03:18:07.427-08:00Very well written article.Very well written article.Web Camera Softwarehttp://www.gotocamera.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-81060436689958253832010-11-02T11:48:42.288-07:002010-11-02T11:48:42.288-07:00Hi Dale,

As the CTO of Infobright, I thought I would mention that you will find us a very good solution as an open columnar database that performs very fast on low end commodity hardware. Our compression also requires less storage. Finally our MySQL compatibility enables many MySQL skilled professionals to take advantage of our solution.Bob Zurekhttp://www.infobright.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-82871162881896571382009-07-29T10:47:25.176-07:002009-07-29T10:47:25.176-07:00Hi

Sometimes the need to properly architect an integrated data warehouse may still be compelling. However, we do see SME's that bring enough actual data into their planning application to build both operational and information (BI) reports. Of course, the volume of transactions are low enough to not introduce performance problems and additional complexity to the planning models.

There is no broad brush, single solution though. It would need some upfront analysis to be sure that you are taking the right approach and don't end up 'running out of steam'Dale Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03409631534138180105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-77217874446433832652009-07-25T09:29:41.549-07:002009-07-25T09:29:41.549-07:00Hi Dale,

Whereas what most semantic search technologies do these days is attempt to derive meaning from the content itself by analysing it.

The semantic WEB won't happen until people adopt the standards for describing meaning in their own content, which is why it is taking too long and may not happen at all IMO!

I agree, semantic BI has very little to do with search that would be like comparing a database with a text file, kind of the same purpose but the scope, scale and general utility are miles apart.Steve Borthwickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13361597018502017407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009798657072620873.post-51604416029512093102009-06-19T00:34:27.566-07:002009-06-19T00:34:27.566-07:00I couldn't agree more; project management is r...I couldn't agree more; project management is rarely appreciated, but often blamed when things go wrong. PM is as much about managing the politics around the project as managing the project itself.
